Tom Purvis (1888-1959) - Original Vintage Poster - "Buy British" - Empire Marketing Board EMB
Tom Purvis (1888-1959) is perhaps one of Britain’s truly wonderful poster artists, creating some of the Golden Age travel posters during the interwar years.
Here we have a really evocative original vintage poster, issued by the Empire Marketing Board (EMB) (1926-1933) and printed for HM Stationery Office by Waterlow and Sons Ltd London Dunstable and Watford.
This striking poster to “BUY BRITISH” was to advertise and encourage people to help the economy by buying British goods - “Buy British from the Empire at Home & Overseas”
The poster dates from around 1930 and is in really fantastic condition with minimal edge wear, only a central crease where it was folded.
Palmer Sinclair acquired this poster still in the envelope from the EMB, so has never been used or exhibited. We have had the poster simply framed in oak with no mount to fully appreciate the full poster.
A really great item and quite rare, given the short period EMB was active. This would make a great impact on any wall. The overall size including frame is 45cm x 58cm
Grab a very wonderful striking image and “BUY BRITISH”
